Monthly Finance Review Checklist (30 Minutes)

A repeatable month-end routine to review cash flow, category spending, debt progress, and next-month targets.

Step 1: review cash flow

Compare total income and total expenses for the month, then identify the top spending categories that changed from your usual pattern.

Focus first on large recurring drifts, not one-off anomalies.

Step 2: review goals and debt

Check progress for savings contributions, emergency fund targets, and debt reduction. Confirm whether your plan allocation matched your actual transfers.

If gaps appear, adjust next month amounts before the month starts rather than waiting until mid-month.

Step 3: set next-month actions

Pick 2-3 specific actions only, such as lowering one variable category, increasing automatic savings by a fixed amount, or scheduling one debt overpayment.

A short action list is easier to execute than broad goals and improves consistency.
